Biography

The directing team of New York native Will Speck and Los Angeles born Josh Gordon began a working collaboration at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts when they were undergraduate film students. While students, they co-wrote and directed what was to be their senior thesis film, “Idyllwild” starring Gillian Anderson, Alan Ruck and Kelly Coffield. “Idyllwild” was an Academy Award Finalist in the Student category.

After graduating in the spring of 1994, Speck and Gordon moved to Los Angeles to begin their careers in the entertainment industry. Gordon worked on the writing staff on NBC’s hit sit-com “ Mad About You” and Speck worked as a creative executive at Fox 2000 Pictures. Eager to delve back into the creative world of filmmaking, they soon left those jobs to write and direct “Angry Boy”, a short film for the FX Network. In 1998 they wrote and directed a short film, “Culture”, starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Greg Germann, which won the silver Hugo Award at the Chicago International Film Festival and was also a 1999 Academy Award Nominee for Best Live Action Short.

Already recipients of an Oscar nomination, Speck / Gordon turned their talents to commercial directing in 1998.  They took the BTAA’s by storm last year for their Levi’s work for BBH London, rounding up a Gold for Best Series, 2 Silvers and a Bronze.

The duo recently completed round two of the much-loved Geico Caveman campaign with the Martin Agency. They also completed spots for Mastercard & Staples with McCann Erickson. Their Samsung work through Berlin Cameron and Partners was shortlisted at Cannes in 2006.

The boys took a break from commercials to release box office hit, Blades of Glory, starring Will Farrell & Jon Heden but have now returned to the commercial world with spots for Avis  and Staples both through McCann, New York.

They both live in Los Angeles.
