Ben Wheatley started out in the uncharted wilds of the internet creating animation and shorts for his cult website mrandmrswheatley.co.uk. This work soon attracted the eyes of both TV and advertising and he embarked on a three-pronged career in TV, online content and commercials.
Ben has both written and directed for numerous TV shows, including Modern Toss, Time Trumpet, The Bafta nominated The Wrong Door, Shooting Stars and most recently Johnny Vegas’ BBC3 sitcom Ideal.
Online he’s directed some of the most successful virals to date – most notably Fingerskilz with over 7 million hits, AmBX viral, wining a gold Cannes Cyber Lion award and Omnia Unboxing, winning a silver.
Since joining Blink he's been busy directing spots for T-Mobile, Phones 4U, Heineken and recently the impressive campaign for Australia’s Carlton Dry for Clemenger BBDO.
Last month Ben premiered his feature length directorial debut, Down Terrace. Described as a dark and funny social surrealist film drama, Ken Loach meets The Sopranos, it was written by Ben and made in only 8 days. The film has gone on to huge critical acclaim, winning Best Film at Fantastic Fest, Best British Film at Raindance Film Festival, and has just been nominated for a Bifa.
