Bob Lawrie and James Studholme set up shop in 1985 with the vision of creating an animation studio with an unconventional approach. Since then, we’ve evolved into a live-action production company with animation, design and film craft sewn into our DNA.

Film school dropout and comedic warlord Nick Ball knows that there are situations you just don’t laugh at, and he’s built his career exploiting them. A keen observer and serial eavesdropper, Nick uses his unique insights into the human condition to represent characters with empathy, awareness, and humour. From this land of irreverent pathos, Ball combines comedy and cinema to capture those small, universal moments that resonate with and reach audiences around the globe.
Nick keeps big brands interesting and smart viewers on their toes with surprising work grounded in sharp storytelling. Whether it’s an epic, cinematic ode to a guy binge-watching Game of Thrones, a smaller, self-effacing character piece about a woman who’s let herself go, or an all-singing, all-dancing choreographed number, Nick’s first loves are character and tonality. In collaborating with clients, he’s always striving to figure out precisely the right tone and unique (often anarchical) worldview that best serves a particular idea.

As a result, his work has garnered recognition from all major award shows, including Cannes, D&AD, ONE Show, CLIOS, LIA, AWARD and AXIS. In 2016, Nick Ball took home an armful of Cannes Lions for his GEICO campaign, including the coveted Gold Lion in Film.
